Hip-Hop feuds are no joke! If only rappers got satisfied with a war of words. Unfortunately, these stars often like to take the matter in their own hands and at least get into a fight. Again, fights between rappers aren’t the worst thing that can happen. Scary examples from history to present time show that rap beef is sometimes no different than a gang confrontation. Take a look at the biggest feuds in the history of rap, where things got far more serious than just headlines in the media and diss tracks.
What started as a firm friendship, turned into one of the scariest and saddest feuds on the rap scene. Unfortunately, none of these icons made it out alive. Initially, there were diss tracks where both rappers would call out one another. Things escalated in 1996 when Tupac Shakur was shot dead in Las Vegas. Rumors of Notorious B.I.G. involvement in the murder of the rapper surfaced and spread. Biggie was also fatally shot in 1997. Their murders remain unsolved.
Jay Z and Nas’ feud was a battle between two of the biggest rap titans. It all started in 1996 when Nas failed to show up in the studio to record the track“Bring it On” with Jay-Z. A month later Nas released his album"It Was Written" that was full of perceived shots at Jay-Z. Naturally, Queen B’s husband didn’t remain silent in the following years. It was literally a war where fans couldn’t get enough of their diss tracks in which both rappers were going super hard on one another. At some point, Jay-Z took things so far that his own mother Gloria Carter called the radio station Hot 97 saying he should apologize to Nas and his family. Jay-Z really called in a bit later and apologized to his mother and all the female listeners who got offended. Luckily, these two ended the beef with an epic performance in 2005.
Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have a song together, but they have never been friends. There was a lot going on between the two chart-topping rappers, from Cardi B claiming that Nicki is sneak dissing her to Nicki claiming that she never received“genuine love” from Cardi adding that“many girls wish they could've been on a song with Nicki Minaj.” Things got really ugly when Cardi and Nicki came face to face at the Harper’s Bazaar event at New York Fashion Week. Something unseen happened that night - a fight in couture gowns. Cardi B famously threw her shoe at Nicki but ended up leaving the event with a huge bump on her forehead. The beef is ongoing with no happy end in sight.
Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown are involved in one of the bloodiest rap feuds of all time. It would’ve been nice if the rivalry between the two ladies was limited to diss tracks. However, things escalated when Lil’ Kim and her crew run into Foxy Brown’s close friend, rapper Capone and his crew outside Hot 97's offices in New York City. Foxy Brown has previously dissed Kim on Capone-N-Noreaga's collaborative song "Bang, Bang." The spontaneous meeting resulted in more than 20 fired shots between the two groups. Lil’ Kim was sentenced to a year in prison hence her involvement in the incident. Surprisingly, Foxy Brown tried to reconcile with Queen Bee, but she rejected the apology.
After an alleged physical assault, 50 Cent decided to throw a diss track at Ja Rule. Things got serious when Ja Rule and his crew visited 50 Cent in the Hit Factory studio where he got stabbed by one of Ja Rule’s friends. Black Child took the credit for stabbing Fiddy, but Ja Rule was also arrested after the incident. In this feud, both rappers and their labels got involved with a series of incidents and diss tracks. It seems that 50 Cent is still not done with Ja Rule. Last year he bought 200 front seats for Ja Rule’s show in Las Vegas with an intention to leave a bunch of empty seats at the gig.
